Spring time at our LGS always means it’s time for apocalypse tradition here locally. John and Jim put together a fund raiser to help support the USO. If you aren’t aware of the USO because you live under a rock of some kind or have been lost on an island for the last year randomly yelling “Jack” as you run through the jungle (I swear that was half that show) then here is a little blurb blatantly lifted from the USO website.

“The USO lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families.
Millions of times each year at thousands of locations around the world, the USO lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families.  A nonprofit, congressionally chartered, private organization, the USO relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to support its activities. The USO is not part of the U.S. government, but is recognized by the Department of Defense, Congress and President of the United States, who serves as Honorary Chairman of the USO”

They have been around and helping out for a long time.

Saturday this event took place and this event uses a slightly different rules structure as you can see below.

Some quick rules for the Jungle Mega battle
1. No strategic assets. Some assets will be put up for auction.
2. Any Formation may be used but not any strategic asset it may allow.
3. Have a lot of fun...........
4. Sides gain 1 point per turn they hold an uncontested objective. The
side with the most points at the end of the battle wins. not the team that
holds the objective on the last turn.
5. Both Commanders have access to the Trophy Kill strategic asset.
6. No units may use the Outflank rule, ever.
7. At the start of your turn, you may opt to pay a fee and "recycle" any
unit. This can be used to bring back a destroyed unit or replace a
damaged one with a fresh one. Any unit that has been recycled
immediately comes on the player's table edge as if it were coming in
from reserve. If this unit has the Deep-Strike rule you may opt to use it.
8. Tables will run independent of each other.
9. More to come on day of the battle.
Donation Guidelines
1. Duck rule-Buy a duck for a $1.00 donation and give a unit a one time 4+
invulnerable save.
2. Cuss jar-Every cuss word uttered there will be a .10 cent fine. This can
be paid in advance.
3. Recycling units: $1.00 per squad, mob, phalanx etc.
4. Recycling vehicles: Front Armor 10 vehicles- $1.00
Front Armor 11-12 vehicles- $2.00
Front Armor 13-14 vehicles- $3.00
Super Heavies & Titans- $5.00
5. Purchasable items per turn
1. SNAFU (Cause one Deep Striking unit to take dangerous terrain test,
failing on 1's and 2's ($5.00)
2.Combat Drugs (Add "Furious Charge" to one unit's rules or for units
that already have "Furious Charge" add +1A) ($4.00)
3. Insane Heroism(Auto rally one unit or auto pass one Morale/Ld check)
4. Time on Target(Re-roll one scatter die) (.50)
5. Torrent of Fire (Add "Pinning" to one unit's weapons for one turn)
6. W.W.I.D. (What Would Ian Do) This will allow a re-roll of a group of dice of either rolling to hit or rolling to wound for shooting or close combat. (3.00) All money raised from this will be donated to help pay for Ian memorial display

Here are some pictures of the tables before the chaos that is war appeared on the tabletop.

The balls you see on the table are objectives. You score a objective by picking it up when a unit comes into contact with it giving your side one point. Then you hold the objective (as in you pick it up and carry it around) until your unit is killed then you drop it. Then it can be picked up by another unit again. If you kill something in assault you automatically pick up an objective it was holding scoring a point for your side.
Also keep in mind the entire board is jungle. So everything is difficult terrain and everything pretty much has a cover save. Oddly no one brought kroot lol.

This is my first year playing in this event since I didn’t really know about it last year. Also my first apoc battle. I spent some money to get a few more points and brought 6 Grinders running a demonic forge host. I also brought a Thirster, some Fiends, flamers, and letters.

Here are some shots of some of the other models that made the game.

At the end of the day the event raised over 1000 dollars for a great cause!!! Everyone had a good time as its fun to have a nonsense day of gaming once in awhile filled with funny moments. Special thanks to John and Jim for putting together the event. I have some notes and a handful of pictures from the actual battle to post up next so stay tuned.
